WINDOWS TO LOOK IN

Threes was honored to present the Italian debut of WINDOWS TO LOOK IN, a groundbreaking project by Lorenzo Senni, one of the recipients of the twelfth edition of the Italian Council (2023). This prestigious international program, organized by the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Ministry of Culture, supported and promoted Italian contemporary art on the global stage.

After its preview at the Fundação de Serralves in Porto and presentations at prestigious institutions such as the Bourse de Commerce in Paris and MUNCH in Oslo, WINDOWS TO LOOK IN was at the forefront of the Italian art scene with two significant events:

MAXXI L’Aquila – National Museum of 21st Century Arts. (September 12, 2024) The exhibition will further consolidate its significance, culminating in the inclusion of the work in the museum’s permanent collection.

FONDAZIONE ICA MILANO (September 18, 2024) An exclusive screening of the documentary curated by Courtney Harrenberg – supported by Residenza 725 – will provide a rare and valuable opportunity to delve into the complex artistic process and conceptual foundations of Lorenzo Senni’s work, offering a deeper understanding of a project that has already resonated strongly on an international level. On the ground floor of Fondazione ICA, a selection of preparatory works that led to Senni’s creation will be on display. These materials provide valuable insight into the creative process that resulted in the final project. During the evening, visitors will also have the opportunity to browse through the WINDOWS TO LOOK IN catalog, which contains comprehensive information on the exhibited works and insights into the artist’s journey.

WINDOWS TO LOOK IN represents a profound continuation of Lorenzo Senni’s conceptual exploration of themes such as voyeurism and vandalism. The project encompasses a series of 14 photographs alongside a musical composition, interrogating the notion of “false reflectivity” as materialized through the use of a specialized reflective paint on the subjects of the photographs. The resulting works invoke a complex dialogue on perception, self-observation, and the negotiation of identity, inviting viewers to confront the inherent tensions between seeing and being seen.

The genesis of the project is rooted in an intensive period of research and study in Los Angeles with esteemed American photographer John Divola. Immersed in Divola’s unique photographic methodologies, Senni found particular resonance in the seminal 1970s series Dead Mirrors, which served as a key conceptual influence throughout the development of WINDOWS TO LOOK IN. This engagement with Divola’s practice provided a critical foundation for Senni’s exploration of the visual and psychological interplay between reflection and reality.

The editorial project associated with WINDOWS TO LOOK IN is born from a sponsorship with Residenza 725, a physical and digital destination that merges culture and the phygital commerce universe. This represents a new identity and evolution for Coltorti, a luxury retail brand that has been operating for 90 years with the finest names in fashion, design, beauty, and lifestyle. Residenza 725 is thrilled to support Lorenzo Senni’s project, an artist whose unique and innovative vision captures and interprets unprecedented aspects of contemporaneity. Residenza 725 strongly believes in the importance of promoting and giving visibility to talents like Senni, who can uniquely and profoundly narrate the cultural, social, and technological changes of our time.
