Even single-celled organisms are complex – in each cell, atoms organise into molecules that comprise cell organelles and other structures. In multicellular organisms, such cells form tissues. Tissues, in turn, work together to form organs, which make up organ systems. Life is reliant on a very large number of interlocking relevant relations and reactions. These enable organisms to move, grow, reproduce, and maintain the structure of their bodies within the bounds of viability – to stay alive.
Born in Vienna/Austria in 1994. Sophie-Luise Passow is a visual artist based in Vienna, Austria. She specialises in large-format abstract paintings that are influenced by and blur the boundaries between multiple disciplines, including drawing, printmaking, and photography. In her works, she explores the drawn line both analytically and intuitively, testing the limits of painterly flatness through expressive hand „swiping.“ Her compositions are characterised by underlying repetitive patterns, which she treats as fluid symbols stemming from society’s collective visual memory. By smearing, entangling, and weaving together universal signs, colours, and shapes, Sophie-Luise Passow aims to encourage the viewer to draw intimate connections of personal relevance to them.
