Exhibition: Be Andr – TAKT

TAKT by Be Andr weaves the concepts of time and rhythm into the idea of ‘Takt.’ Drawing on Deleuze’s thoughts on rhythm as a milieu’s response to chaos, ‘Takt’ in this context reflects the body's circadian rhythms and the passage of non-linear time as we transition between different environments.

This progression is not only a space between rhythm and chaos but also between the organic and inorganic, human and machine. Here, chaos does not oppose time or rhythm but acts as its partner. The German word ‘Takt,’ derived from the Latin ‘Tactus,’ signifies touch, sense, and feeling. Life itself is filled with rhythm – from the patterns of our breath to the beating of our hearts, all resonating with the subtle movements of atoms. ‘Takt,’ in this exhibition, is not about the precision of military marching but is exemplified in the main piece, ‚SHHH,‘ which is a powerful reminder of the importance of silence and attentive listening. Two paintings in the exhibition, depicting the eyes of the artist’s son, underscore the theme of repetition and personal rhythm—a child as the embodiment of their parents‘ rhythm.

These images are not simply representations, but interpretations generated by an algorithm, offering a digital perspective on visual perception, freezing time into algorithmic rhythms, shapes, and patterns. A sculpture titled ‘In Formation,’ made of the words themselves, balances on a stick, disrupting traditional notions of orientation. It challenges us to reconsider our understanding of space, suggesting fluidity in how information is received. An interactive installation featuring several metronomes invites viewers to engage with the rhythmic synchronisation of space and time. Participants can touch the metronomes to observe how the rhythms fall out of sync and then come back together, mirroring nature’s tendency towards cooperation and collaboration. This piece speaks to ‚Takt‘ as a form of partnership, a process that unfolds through time itself. Ultimately, this exhibition encourages a shift towards collaborative engagement and deep listening. It highlights the interconnectedness of all elements within the system of time and space. By embracing touch and interaction, we unlock the complex rhythms of our surroundings and deepen our appreciation of the intricate dance of existence.
